STAGE 3 - DIPLOMA
Syllabus
KEY PROJECTS
- Substantial Traditional Armchair of advanced techniques which include at least two of the following elements the fitting of caps & collars, scroll arms, or stitched up edges to arms, sprung arms, coil sprung seats, independent sprung edges, deep buttoning, fluting or an iron frame chair.
- Modern Chair with a concave inside back incorporating tailored fitting and tops stitching i.e. egg style (shell frame)
- Portfolio containing notes and details of work in progress
- A written research project - 20th Century Furniture Design
NOTE: The items in bold are assessment pieces that will be marked and graded by an external verifier from the AMUSF. In addition to the course requirements, students are also encouraged to be creative and develop their design skills.

The costs involved for undertaking Stage 3 consists of the following elements:-
ADDITIONAL ITEMS
Upon enrolment, each student will be given a Student's Handbook which will includes, course details, confirmation of course fees and associated costs, guidance notes and requirements for producing a portfolio, guidance notes for your research project, a copy of the Maria's Traditional Upholstery Limited Risk Assessment Form, Workshop Health & Safety Guidelines.
All Students are expected to provide their own furniture to meet the requirements of the syllabus excluding exercise frames.
All Personal Protection Equipment will be provided by Maria's Traditional Upholstery Limited

- AMUSF Registration Fee
- Purchase of materials, work frames and sundry items
- Students own costs associated with the purchase of chair frames, fabrics, trimmings etc.
